Journal 12: Women's Studies

In chapter 12 they discuss a lot about religion, talking about how women in the muslim culture are very reseverved and they all ususally have to wear a scarf over there head  and they all half to cover there hair other wise they are being disrespectful.  My one wonder on this whole theory or situatution, is why is it that only women have to cover themselves this way and men just dont have to worry about it.  Its like all the Islamic women are held to being so bossed around, meaning they haved to do whatever they are told especially to their husbands, or should I say their masters.  It seems like their world, especially when it comes to their religion is very stressful, they have to meet certain standards, and obey certain people.

In the reading about the native american women, they talk about how the women have a spiritual side to them and that is what their religion is mostly based on spirits.  In this culture the women are actually respected because their blood is sacred so they are seen in awe.  The blood of women is supposedly infused with supreme mind so they will sacrifice this sacred blood as well.  And in this culturethe status of mother was held so high, they actually appreciate and respect women like Gods in the Native American world.  It is unfortuante in our own society women cant be treated with the same respect.  Its not like were asking to be treated as Gods and to make our blood all sacred or anything, we just want the same rights and respect that men are given too.

Journal 11: Women's Studies

Chapter 11 really got to me, I have to say the whole unequality of women when it comes to the law really makes me made.  I mean the fact that when a man rapes a women and the woman has to even take him to court hoping he get arrested?  It should even be a question or a wonder, when a man commits a crime no matter what it is he should be punished especailly violently or pshyically attacking a woman.  These are things that just arent questioned, but we all know that for some reason when a woman accuses a man of this "insane acusation" she might not be telling the truth.  For instance the woman might be very attractive, therefore she was probably asking for it and got scared and blamed the guy.  Somehow the guy just isnt to blame!  And then we have the unfair court cases when it comes to divorce and a custody battle, now I am not saying the woman always deserves the kids, it could be the father that deserves the custody but, in some clear cases where the woman might not have money but is the better parent for the job, the father who might be horrible has the moneythat can actually care for the kids and then everyone is screwed.  I think in those cases if the mother just cant afford everything money wise then why does the law help her out instead of possibly handing over her kids to an abusive father?  The law just needs to understand and treat woman fairly.

Journal 10: Women's Studies

Chapter 10 was a very interesting reading but I have to write about reading 82, the print you gave us in class, "Are Your Words Holding You Back?"  I can most certainly relate to this reading the most out of any theat we have read so far.  I am already what most people call a pushover and after reading this article I didn't realize how bad I was.  I will always apologize for something immediately even if it wasnt my fault or there were no apologizes needed.  For example anytime someone bumps into me, its like a reflex that i say sorry and the other person either says nothing or "its ok."  Now especially when I approach a teacher or someone above me, I seem to always start off with "sorry to bother you" or "I know this is dumb to ask" and then I feel even more stupid just saying that.  And after reading this article I see how this is just putting me down and this allows people to walk all over me.

To findout that its not just me its all women, is relieving and at the same time just plain wrong, women shouldn't have to speak that way, like they are scared or not allowed to talk and they need permission to speak or something.  I dont know why we are like this in the first place, how did we get brought up like this.  My guess is from the fact that probably when our mothers were younger or just all women back in the day were suppose to be like that and men had this authority over them so they would be scared to speak, I just wish it wasn't still like that.  Today in society the rules are different and women are equal so we should all be able to speak and not put ourselves, while doing it.

Jounarl 9: Women's Studies

After reading all the readings I have come up a question about the reading called "Desperately Debating Housewives."  Honestly why does any find that show so interesting? I mean i understand the sroeies are intense and there is some drama, but the whole comic part of it is so unreal, I mean they push that show to the limit and honestly over do it.  I can understand mybe your bored at home and nothing is on, so you skim through it, but what really attracts the audience to this, especially women, because the whole she is actually degrading women and it seems like we dont even notice it.

Journal 8: Women's Studies

After reading the three readings, reading 63 and 67 interested me the most.  In reading 63 the title straight off the bat caught my, " A Black Woman took my Job" wow, that just sounds horrible right there, obviously a woman let alone a black couldn't have their job, like in the reading, it says notice the word my, what exactly makes it "my" job. But seriously when did this guy own this job, and obviously he wasnt doing that great at it if a "woman" took it away from him, right?  Anyways the reading continues they talk about how violence has been part of manhood for a long time, which is true.  I dont understand why being able to beat someone up all the sudden proves that you are "man enough."  This violence has led to a strong percentage of rape in society, supposedly 45 percent college women have been sexual abused against their own will.  I  guess men feel they always have to prove something to women like having a better job,  you  know "there job" or raping them tells them whose boss.  But I did like how the article mentioned that in 1996 studies have proven that men who share in the house work an draising the children, have much happier lives with their family, less depressiveness and apparently more sex, which makes, sense if you make your wife happy then she will do the same in return.  And in reading 67 it relates a lot to 63 about how men like to keep their standing as dominant.  They want to be the ones, wearing the pants and making the most money, and heaven for bid you are taller than them.  In their world they are taught men are better than woman in athletics, they make more money and they should always be in charge.  I just say men and women should just be equal, why should the man have all that pressure and stress.  I know when i have a family my husband and I will be equal in what goes on in our family and he will definatly help around the house and the with the children, and as far as pay goes, I really wouldn't who makes more, just as long as it it never thrown in either one of our faces.
